We have updated our sick leave toolkit based on additional guidance issued in California; the District of Columbia, Eugene, OR; Passaic, NJ; New York City; and Oakland, CA which clarifies some issues that were ambiguous or not addressed in the underlying law.

New ordinances have been passed in Tacoma, Washington and Philadelphia, PA and Bloomfield, NJ. We have added FAQs for these jurisdictions.

Finally, we have updated or provided model policies for the following jurisdictions:

California: Added a model “front loading” policy and additional policy considerations for the accrual policy.

New York City: The update pertains to accrual and usage of earned sick leave and requirements for notice and medical documentation. Updates were made in the “Usage” and “Notice and Documentation” sections in the policy.

Passaic, NJ: The update pertains to accrual and usage of paid sick leave. Updates were made in the “Usage” section in the policy.

Oakland, CA:  Added a new sick leave policy.

The updated Sick Leave Law Toolkit is available on FormSource in the Leave and Return to Work section. We recommend that clients distribute as appropriate and that employees acknowledge receipt of the new policies. A sample acknowledgement form is included in the toolkit.

As always, please contact your HR Business Partner if you have any questions.
