Alaska has enacted Senate Bill 185 (SB 185) which eliminates the use of the subminimum wage for workers with disabilities. SB 185 is effective Dec. 12, 2022.
The Details:
SB 185 amends Alaska Stat. § 23.10.070 by eliminating the commissioner’s authority to provide a subminimum wage for "an individual whose earning capacity is impaired by physical or mental deficiency, age, or injury."
Next Steps:
As of Dec. 12, 2022, Alaska employers must pay workers with disabilities at least the state minimum wage of $10.34 per hour.
