Executive Order 14026 Regarding Federal Contractor Minimum Wage Rescinded. Minimum wage from Executive Order 13658 back in effect.

EO 13658 a previous order setting a lower minimum wage, was not rescinded. Consequently, effective Jan. 1, 2025, federal contractors covered under EO 13658 must pay at least a minimum wage of $13.30 per hour to non-tipped employees and pay tipped employees at least a minimum cash wage of $9.30 per hour. Generally, EO 13658 pertains to covered contracts that were entered into, renewed or extended prior to Jan. 30, 2022.,

Federal Court blocks DHS termination of 2023 TPS Designation for Venezuela

On March 31, 2025, a federal court issued a nationwide order blocking the decision to terminate the 2023 TPS designation for Venezuela. The net effect of the order is to reinstate the Jan. 17, 2025 notice that extended the 2023 TPS designation for Venezuela to Oct. 2, 2026. The order will remain in effect while a decision from the court on the merits of the underlying legal action remains pending. The government could choose to appeal the order.

Missouri Voters Approve Paid Sick Leave

Missouri voters have approved a ballot initiative, Proposition A, which requires all employers to provide paid sick leave to employees. Proposition A will take effect on May 1, 2025.

Illinois - Deadline for Renewal of Some Illinois Equal Pay Certificates Approaches, Portal Now Open

Employers with 100 or more employees located in Illinois must renew their Equal Pay Registration Certificate (EPRC) every two years. For employers that obtained their initial EPRC in 2023, this means the deadline for renewing their certification falls in 2025.

Employers who have already obtained their initial EPRC should receive an automated reminder from the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) prior to the deadline for renewing their EPRC.

California pay data reports due May 14

We want to inform you that the California Civil Rights Division (CRD) has released new and updated resources for the 2024 pay data reporting period for employers with 100 or more employees. Employers must use the CRD’s online pay data reporting portal to submit their annual reports. The portal is open and the deadline to submit the reporting for 2024 is May 14, 2025.

Pension Plan Limitations for 2025 Provided by IRS

On Nov.  1, 2024,  the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced via Notice 2024-80, the cost-of-living adjustments applicable to dollar limitations for pension plans and other items for tax year 2025.   

Oregon Adds Quota Protections for Warehouse Workers

Oregon has enacted legislation (House Bill 4127), which adds notice and recordkeeping requirements surrounding production quotas for warehouse workers. House Bill 4127 took effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

New York - Updated: New York Takes Action to Prevent Violence in Retail

New York enacted legislation (Assembly Bill A8947C), which added workplace violence prevention requirements for employers. New York has also enacted legislation (Senate Bill S740), to help clarify these requirements. The laws’ workplace violence prevention policy and training requirements take effect on June 2, 2025 and the silence response button (SRB) requirements take effect on Jan. 1, 2027.

Michigan Amends Minimum Wage, Paid Sick Leave Rules Again

Michigan has enacted two pieces of legislation that amend the state’s minimum wage and paid sick leave requirements further. The laws (Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 4002) took effect immediately on Feb. 21, 2025.

New York City Amends Lactation Room Accommodation Requirements

New York City has enacted legislation (Int 0892-2024), which amends lactation room accommodation policy requirements. Int 0892-2024 takes effect on May 11, 2025.
