Ohio Requires Notice Before Certain Layoffs and Plant Closures

Ohio has enacted legislation (House Bill 96), which requires employers to provide notice of certain plant closings and mass layoffs. House Bill 96 takes effect Sept.  29, 2025.

Ohio Allows Online Posting of Certain Labor Notices

The state of Ohio has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 33), which provides employers with the option to post certain state labor law notices online. Senate Bill 33 is effective immediately.

Ohio - Cleveland, OH Enacts Pay Transparency Law

Cleveland, Ohio, has passed an ordinance (Ordinance 104-2025) that bans an employer from inquiring about an applicant's salary history and requires employers to include salary ranges and scales when advertising job openings. Ordinance 104-2025 takes effect on Oct. 27, 2025.

Ohio Enacts Pay Statement Law

On Jan. 8, 2025, the Governor of Ohio signed into law HB 106 which requires that every employer provide each of its employees with a written or electronic statement or access to a statement of the employee's earnings and deductions for each pay period on the employer's regular paydays.

Current Ohio law does not require that employers provide a pay statement to its employees.

Ohio Enacts Recreational Marijuana Law

Voters in Ohio approved a ballot measure, An Act to Control and Regulate Adult Use of Cannabis (the Act), which legalizes recreational marijuana. The law takes effect on Dec. 7, 2023.

Ohio - Columbus, Ohio Prohibits Salary History Inquiries

The City of Columbus, Ohio, has enacted an ordinance to prohibit certain employers from inquiring about an applicant’s pay history. The ordinance takes effect on March 1, 2024.

Ohio exempts overtime requirements for travel to and from worksites

Ohio has enacted Senate Bill 47, which exempts from the state’s overtime requirements time spent engaged in traveling to and from a worksite or performing specific tasks.

Ohio increases minimum wage for 2022

Ohio's minimum wage will increase to $9.30 per hour on January 1, 2022. The change is a result of an annual adjustment for inflation.

Cincinnati bans hairstyle discrimination

Cincinnati, Ohio, has enacted legislation (Ordinance 379) that bans discrimination on the basis of one's hairstyle. Ordinance 379 takes effect immediately.
