Ensure an efficient Workers’ Compensation Insurance Renewal: Certificate review period begins March 1

We are excited to announce that we are once again providing you with a Certificate of Insurance (COI) review period prior to this year's annual workers' compensation renewal. This critical review period is essential to verify the accuracy of your certificates and remove unnecessary documents from your account before they are automatically renewed.

Now Available: Workers’ compensation renewal certificates (COI) from the Marsh COI Portal.

Workers’ compensation renewal certificates (COI) for the next policy period (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027) are now available for immediate download via the Marsh COI Portal, which is integrated within the ADP TotalSource® platform. This tool allows for 24/7 self-service access to generate and distribute certificates of insurance.

United States Postal Service Rule Change

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently released an updated rule change providing clarification on the timing and manner by which mail is officially postmarked.

The rule states that the manual stamping of a postmark is not done in the ordinary course of business for retail USPS locations. This means that if you place mail in a mailbox or at a post office location and do not request a manual postmark, then the piece of mail will not receive a postmark until it arrives at a USPS processing facility.

In fact, about half of all complaints filed with the EEOC over the past few years included a claim of retaliation. What is retaliation and what steps can employers take to help avoid it? We answer these questions below.

Is Pay Required for ‘Sleep Time?’ What About ‘On-Call Time?’

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to compensate non-exempt employees at least the minimum wage for each hour worked and pay them overtime (at 1.5 times the employee’s regular rate of pay) whenever they work more than 40 hours in a workweek. The amount non-exempt employees should receive in pay cannot be determined accurately without knowing the number of hours worked. Under many circumstances, time spent at a worksite is considered hours worked under the FLSA. What about when an employee sleeps at the worksite?
