California - San Diego to increase minimum wage effective January 1, 2023

San Diego, California has announced that the city minimum wage will increase on Jan. 1, 2023.

The Details: 

San Diego’s minimum wage will increase from $15.00 per hour to $16.25 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2023.  Any employee who performs at least two hours of work in one or more calendar weeks of the year within the geographic boundaries of the City of San Diego is entitled to the city minimum wage.

Note: California does not allow the use of a tip credit when paying tipped employees.

Next Steps:

Effective Jan. 1, 2023, all San Diego employers must pay their employees at least $16.25 per hour if the employee works at least two hours in one or more calendar weeks of the year within the geographic boundaries of the City of San Diego.

 

In addition, every employer must post the minimum wage notices published by the City each year in a visible place at any workplace or job site where an employee works. The 2023 minimum wage poster has not yet been released but once released may be found here
