As we previously reported, Minnesota has passed the Women’s Economic Security Act (“Act”). The Act is a major piece of legislation aimed at improving working conditions for women that will have a significant impact on Minnesota businesses. A combination of at least nine different bills, the Act is intended to reduce the gender pay gap and to provide greater workplace protections for pregnant women and nursing mothers, among other things.

The Act also impacts employee handbooks. As a result we have added and/or updated the following policies:

  • Wage Disclosure Protections
  • Right to Review Personnel Records
  • Domestic Abuse or Harassment Leave
  • Crime Victims Leave
  • Equal Employment Opportunity
  • Lactation Breaks
  • Sick Days
  • FMLA

We recommend that clients distribute and that employees acknowledge receipt of the new policy in writing. The acknowledgement should be maintained in the employee’s personnel file.

The new policy may be accessed on FormSource under the New Hire section.
