Iowa has amended its pay statement law to allow employers to provide electronic wage statements. Previously, employers were required to mail or provide wage statements at the place of employment, or provide employees with the means to view and print an electronic wage statement at the workplace. Per House Bill 2240, employers are now allowed to provide wage statements by providing the statement to an employee by secure electronic transmission or by other secure electronic means.

If the employee is unable to receive his or her wage statement electronically, the employee must notify the employer in writing at least one pay period in advance, and the employer must provide the statement by:
  • Sending the statement to the employee by mail;
  • Providing the statement to the employee at the employee’s normal place of business during normal employment hours; or
  • Providing each employee access to view the employee earnings statement electronically and providing the employee free and unrestricted access to a printer to print the statement.
Coverage: Employers with employees in Iowa.

Effective: July 1, 2018
