Texas Bans Hairstyle Discrimination

Texas has enacted legislation (House Bill 567), which expressly prohibits discrimination against individuals based on traits associated with race, such as hair texture and hairstyles like braids, locs, and twists. House Bill 567 takes effect September 1, 2023.

Texas - Austin bans employers from discriminating against hairstyles

San Antonio, Texas Passes Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law

San Antonio, Texas has passed a paid sick and safe leave ordinance, which mirrors the ordinance passed earlier this year in Austin. However, whether this paid sick leave law ever takes effect is very much uncertain. Austin’s paid sick leave law is facing its own legal challenges and has been placed on hold. Depending on the outcome, it could impact San Antonio’s ordinance.

Austin, Texas Passes Ordinance Banning Pre-Offer Inquiry into Applicant’s Criminal History – Reminder for all Clients Regarding Background Check Consent Form

Austin, Texas has enacted a city ordinance prohibiting employers from asking about or considering a job applicant’s criminal history before making a conditional offer of employment. Austin is the first city in the South to enact such a “Fair Chance” or “Ban the Box” law. Also, please be reminded that clients taking advantage of ADP Screening and Selection Services should use the most recent version of the Background Check Consent Form, which is available on FormSource in the pre-employment section.
