New York's minimum wage will increase on December 31, 2019. This change is a result of a 2016 law that increased the minimum wage incrementally.
New York has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 1040) that expands employment protections for domestic violence victims. Senate Bill 1040 takes effect on November 18, 2019.
Maryland has enacted legislation (House Bill 679) that expands the state's nondiscrimination law. House Bill 679 took effect on October 1, 2019.
The California Department of Industrial Relations has announced an increase to the pay rates computer software employees and physicians must receive in order to be exempt from overtime. Additionally, the minimum salary required for the administrative, professional, and executive overtime exemptions will also increase. These new rates take effect on January 1, 2020.
California has enacted legislation (Assembly Bill 1223) that will expand the state's requirements for providing leave to employees for organ donation. Assembly Bill 1223 takes effect on January 1, 2020.
