More than four million American workers held both a full-time job and a part-time job at the same time in 2022, according to the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. A few hundred thousand more workers held two two-full-time jobs at the same time in 2022. When employees have a second job in addition to their full-time job, it is often referred to as moonlighting.
The United States Supreme Court has ruled in Helix Energy Solutions Group v. Hewitt that an employee who made in excess of $200,000 annually was eligible for overtime pay due to the fact that the employee was paid on a daily basis.
Washington state has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 5793), which expands paid sick leave protections under state law. Senate Bill 5793 takes effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
