Amendments to the Illinois Human Rights Act Include Updated Posting and Handbook Requirements

Overview:  New Illinois Human Rights Act posting and handbook requirements extend to all employers operating in the state of Illinois.

Details:
Amendments to the Illinois Human Rights act update the posting and notice requirements to include specific information about employee rights to be free from sexual harassment. Public Act 100-0588 amends the IHRA at 775 ILCS 5/2-102(K) and directs that employers must post the notice issued by Illinois Department of Human Rights and, importantly, include the same content covered in the notice in their employee handbooks. The new notice is entitled "You Have the Right to Be Free From Job Discrimination and Sexual Harassment."
The new posting and handbook requirements extend to all employers operating in the state of Illinois.

Action Required:  Illinois employers should review and revise their handbook to ensure that they are compliant with the updated requirements and immediately post the new notice. As always, please be sure to contact your Human Resources Business Partner if you have any questions.
