USCIS Proposes Changes to Form I-9, Instructs Current I-9 to be Used Beyond Expiration Date

The current Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification expired on March 31, 2016. The USCIS has announced that employers must continue to use the current version until a proposed I-9 is in effect.

OSHA Releases Final Rule on Respirable Crystalline Silica

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released its final rule on respirable crystalline silica. The rule, which is titled Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica, establishes a permissible exposure limit (PEL) and also includes provisions regarding exposure assessments, respiratory protection, medical surveillance, hazard communication, and recordkeeping.

New Feature: Default Standard Hours for Specific States

A new feature went into effect as of 4/15/16 to help ADP Resource clients remain in compliance with reporting. If standard hours have not yet been defined on your Employees Employment Profile or on the Payroll Grid, they will now be automatically added for your salaried employees within these states: Washington, Washington DC, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, Oregon, Wyoming, Virgin Islands.

California Raises Minimum Wage to $15.00 Per Hour and Amends Sick Leave Law for in-home Supportive Services

Governor Brown signed SB 3 into law raising the state minimum wage to $15.00 per hour by 2022.  California’s minimum wage currently is $10.00 per hour.  The new law also amends the existing paid sick leave law to provide paid sick leave to in-home supportive services employees beginning July 1, 2018.  The sick leave entitlement will provide up to one day of leave per year and increase over time to three days per year.

San Francisco Enacts Paid Parental Leave

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved an ordinance requiring employers to provide employees with up to 6 weeks of fully paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child.

Minnesota Drug and Alcohol Testing Law Crosses State Lines

The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit recently ruled, in Olson v. Push, Inc., that multistate employers with operations in Minnesota must comply with the Minnesota Drug and Alcohol Testing in the Workplace Act (“DATWA”), even at their non-Minnesota locations.
