Changes in Social Security Number Display on Pay Statement

11/20/14

Author: SuperUser Account/Thursday, November 20, 2014/Categories: Bulletin News

As part of ADP's continuing commitment to protect your valuable data, we have implemented a change in the way employee Social Security numbers are displayed on their pay statements.

Today, most employee Social Security numbers appear in a masked format as xxx-xxx-1234 in the upper section of their pay statement (above the Earnings section).

For New York employees, Social Security numbers appear in the same section, but no digits are shown. Instead, employees see XXX-XX-XXXX.

As of November 7, 2014, the following changes went into effect:

  • The entire line for the "Social Security Number" has been removed from pay statements. This includes the New York display of XXX-XX-XXXX
  •  Due to California regulations, ONLY employees in CA will continue to have their Social Security number displayed on their pay statement as XXX-XX-1234.

Important Note: Clients with employees in California who display identification numbers instead of the last 4 digits of the Social Security number may disregard this notice.

We value our business relationship with you and take pride in the confidence you place in us to process payroll on your behalf. If you have questions or comments about this this tax notice, please contact your Payroll Service Representative.
