Small Businesses Could Face IRS Fines for Helping Employees with Health Care Costs

A new regulation that went into effect on July 1, 2015, could find some small businesses being fined $100 per day per employee for helping with health care costs. The rule mandates that employers who give their employees additional pay to compensate for medical expenses or health insurance purchases, but do not offer a group health plan will be fined.

Rhode Island strengthens protections for pregnant employees. Rhode Island has passed an amendment to the state Fair Employment Practices Act which expanded the protections afforded to employees and job applicants on the basis of "conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions".
