The State of Washington has enacted legislation (House Bill 1073) that expands employee eligibility for the state's paid family and medical leave program. House Bill 1073 is effective immediately.

The state of Washington has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 5254) that requires certain employers to accommodate an employee's voluntary usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) during a public health emergency. Senate Bill 5254 is effective immediately.

The State of Washington has enacted legislation (House Bill 1206) that requires staffing agencies and employers to follow certain communication and safety protocols for temporary workers. House Bill 1206 takes effect on July 25, 2021.

Washington State has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 5284), which will eliminate subminimum wage certificates for individuals with disabilities. Senate Bill 5284 takes effect on July 25, 2021.

The minimum wage in the District of Columbia will increase to $15.20 per hour on July 1, 2021 for all workers, regardless of the size of the employer.

Virginia has enacted legislation (House Bill 2137) that requires employers to provide paid sick leave to certain home health workers. House Bill 2137 is effective July 1, 2021.

Virginia has enacted three pieces of legislation that expand and amend the Virginia Human Rights Act (VHRA). These laws take effect on July 1, 2021.

Virginia has enacted legislation (House Bill 2063 also known as the Overtime Wage Act) that expands overtime protections. House Bill 2063 is effective July 1, 2021.

The Philadelphia Fair Workweek Ordinance adds scheduling and pay requirements for certain food service, retail and hospitality employers. The ordinance was originally scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. It will now be enforced beginning June 1, 2021.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the New York Health and Essential Rights Act, or "the NY HERO Act" (the Act), into law. The Act adds workplace health and safety protections for airborne infectious diseases.
