President issues Proclamation Increasing H-1B Visa fee to $100,000

The H-1B visa program allows US employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations requiring highly specialized knowledge.   Before the Proclamation took effect, private employers would submit a $780 fee to sponsor a petition along with additional fees of approximately $1,800 to $2,600.  The government holds an annual lottery to select those workers who will gain the visa.

End of 2021 TPS Designation for Venezuela

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced the termination of the 2021 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Venezuela.  Originally, the 2021 designation for Venezuela was set to expire on Sept. 10, 2025.  DHS has indicated that Venezuela TPS beneficiaries under the 2021 designation continue to be employment-authorized during a 60-day transition period through Nov. 7, 2025.

<span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;">A U.S. District Court judge has issued an order temporarily blocking the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from ending TPS protections for Haitian nationals early. &nbsp;Under a previous announcement from DHS, TPS for Haiti would have terminated early on September 2, 2025. The court order reinstates a prior expiration date of February 3, 2026. DHS has appealed the order. <br />

Supreme Court Permits Recission of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans While Lower Court Temporarily Preserves Status – Updated

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated their TPS Venezuela webpage with the following information:

” On May 30, 2025, the district court in case No. 3:25-cv-1766 ordered that—pending resolution of the litigation—TPS beneficiaries who received TPS-related employment authorization documents, Forms I-797, Notices of Action, and Forms I-94 issued with Oct. 2, 2026 expiration dates on or before Feb. 5, 2025 will maintain that status, and their documentation will remain valid during the course of the litigation.  All TPS-related documentation with a validity date of Oct.  2, 2026, received after Feb. 5, 2026, is no longer valid and those individuals under the 2023 designation no longer have TPS. 

Separately, TPS under the 2021 designation for Venezuela remains in effect through Sept.  10, 2025.”
