Illinois has enacted legislation that expands job protections for employees who are volunteer emergency workers. Among other changes, the law protects covered employees when they attend required volunteer emergency worker training, not only when they respond to emergencies.

Illinois has enacted legislation that will prohibit covered employers and employment agencies from including a statement in a job posting that an applicant must have a valid driver’s license, unless driving is one of the essential functions of the job and is a business necessity.

Eligible New Jersey employees are entitled to job-protection while receiving TDI benefits and FLI benefits, with reinstatement rights to their job (or an equivalent position) when the benefits end.

Minnesota has published regulations clarifying and defining various aspects of the state’s law entitling employees to earned sick and safe time (ESST).  

Colorado has enacted legislation that prohibits employers or their agents from demanding, confiscating, retaining, or otherwise requiring individuals performing or seeking work to surrender a government-issued identification card, subject to limited exceptions. Employers must also notify individuals of this prohibition when they verify their employment eligibility.

The State of Washington has released an updated version of the guide that must accompany the requisite notice under the state’s amended Fair Chance Act.

Virginia has enacted legislation which expands the number of employers that may be required to participate in the Virginia RetirePath program.   

New York City has issued final amendments to the rules that implement the City’s Earned Sick and Safe Time Act. The final amended rules provide guidance on how to administer the law’s expanded leave requirements, and impose new administrative and recordkeeping obligations.

Covered employers must pay a fee for employees and their dependents who receive New Jersey Medicaid benefits.

Colorado has enacted legislation to repeal and effectively replace a law intended to establish guardrails against discrimination arising from the use of artificial intelligence.
