New Jersey publishes paid sick leave regulations

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has released final regulations enforcing its paid sick leave law.

New Jersey offers tax credits for organ and bone marrow donation leave

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 4188) that enables employers and employees to claim tax credits for organ and bone marrow leave. Additionally, Assembly Bill 1449 requires employers to provide job security to organ and bone marrow donors. Both laws take effect May 20, 2020.

New Jersey extends notification and pay requirements for mass layoffs

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 3170) that amends the Millville Dallas Airmotive Plant Job Loss Notification Act, also known as the NJ mini-WARN Act. Senate Bill 3170 takes effect July 19, 2020.

New Jersey expands worker misclassification protections

New Jersey has enacted two pieces of legislation (Assembly Bill 5843 and Assembly Bill 5839) aimed at combating worker misclassification.

New Jersey expands wage statement requirements

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 1791) that will require employers to provide employees with an earnings statement each pay period. Senate Bill 1791 takes effect May 19, 2020.

New Jersey bans hairstyle discrimination

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 3945) that bans discrimination on the basis of a person’s hairstyle, or type and texture of hair. Senate Bill 3945 takes effect immediately. 

New Jersey gender inequity annual notice reminder

New Jersey law requires New Jersey employers with 50 or more employees (determined by counting all employees regardless of whether those employees work in New Jersey) to “conspicuously post” and distribute a notification stating employees’ rights to be free from gender inequity or bias in pay, compensation, benefits or other terms or conditions. This requirement complies with the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Pay Act of 1963.

New Jersey annual CEPA notice reminder

We would like to remind New Jersey clients of their obligation to annually distribute to their New Jersey employees, via written or electronic means, the required notice under the Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA) in both English and Spanish.

New Jersey expands wage payment laws, requires new notice

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 1790) that expands its existing wage payment laws to, among other things, require a new notice and increase penalties for violations. Senate Bill 1790 is effective immediately.

New Jersey bans salary history inquiries

New Jersey has enacted legislation (Assembly Bill 1094) that prohibits employers from asking applicants about their salary history.  Assembly Bill 1094 takes effect on January 1, 2020.
