Delaware Mandates Pregnancy Accommodations

Delaware has enacted the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, extending workplace protections afforded to pregnant employees, and employees who have recently given birth, to include requiring employers provide reasonable accommodations to such employees.

California Enacts Sick Leave Law

With the enactment of the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 (AB1522), California has become the second state in the nation, after Connecticut, to mandate employers provide their employees, including part-time and temporary workers, paid sick leave.

IRS Modifies Cafeteria Plan Rules to Permit Employees to Drop Coverage to Enroll in Marketplace Coverage

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently issued IRS Notice 2014-55, which expands the current cafeteria plan rules that apply when an employee wants to modify or revoke an election of coverage outside of a plan’s open enrollment period.

CALIFORNIA REPEALS 60-DAY LIMITATION ON WAITING PERIODS

District of Columbia Passes Ban the Box Law – Requires Changes to Adverse Action Notices

9/23/14

Creates the “Fair Criminal Records Screening Act” which amends the Re-entry Facilitation Amendment Act of 2012. The new law prohibits the consideration of a job applicant’s arrest records during the hiring process, restricts an employer’s inquiry into a job applicant’s prior convictions until after a conditional job offer, and establishes penalties for non-compliance of the law.

New Jersey Passes Ban the Box Law

New Jersey has passed the Opportunity to Compete Act which establishes certain employment rights for persons with criminal records by prohibiting employers from asking applicants about their criminal record history during the initial employment application process.

Parental Leave Act Strengthens Maryland Employee Leave Protections
