Minimum Wage changes effective July 1, 2023

The following chart shows the current minimum wage for non-tipped and tipped employees and the increase effective July 1, 2023. Rates listed in black were enacted by federal, state, district, territory, or commonwealth law. Rates listed in red were enacted by city or county ordinance. It is important to note that minimum wages that may be paid to individuals under a certain age (e.g., youth wage), to employees during a “training” period, or to employees working for a non-profit are not reflected.

How to Complete I-9s for Remote Employees

The Form I-9 (I-9) is used to verify a new hire's identity and work authorization. Employers must ensure that each employee properly completes the I-9 at the time of hire. Completing an I-9 can be more complicated for employees who are working remotely, especially now that a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) temporary policy that allowed virtual inspection of documentation in some cases is about to expire on July 31.

California Pay Data Report is Now Available for filing with Civil Rights Department (CRD)

The deadline for California employers with 100 or more employees and/or 100 or more workers hired through labor contractors to report pay and other data to the Civil Rights Department (CRD) is May 10th. The CRD has  established a web page to view frequently asked questions (FAQs), access the online portal, a user guide, and other resources.
