New Tax Reform Legislation Signed into Law

H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (the Act), was passed by both the House and Senate on December 20, 2017, and signed into law by President Trump on December 22, 2017.  The Act includes several significant changes that are relevant to employers for payroll, employment tax and employee benefits purposes.

Maine Upholds Veto of Recreational Marijuana Law

On November 6, 2017, the Maine House of Representative upheld Governor Paul R. LePage’s veto of a bill to legalize and regulate recreational marijuana. The 74-62 vote fell 17 votes short of the two-thirds margin required to override the Governor’s veto.
